1. Verify your nonprofit’s eligibility

Before starting the process, it’s crucial to ensure your organization is eligible for Google for Nonprofits. Here are some eligibility criteria:

  • Be recognized as a nonprofit organization in your country.
  • Have a functional website that includes basic information about your nonprofit.
  • Government entities, hospitals or healthcare organizations, and educational institutions are not eligible unless they have a distinct charity foundation.
  • Adhere to Google’s non-discrimination policies.

2. Create a Google for Nonprofits account

Sign up for Google for Nonprofits using your personal or business Google account.

Tip : Over the years, we’ve noticed that the application process for the Google Ad Grants is easier when the email address includes your nonprofit’s name. Here’s an example for charityrocket.com:

Harder : [email protected]

Easier : [email protected]

It only takes 10 minutes to fill out the form, providing details like your country, organization name, website address, and contact person.

Tip : If your organization’s name doesn’t appear in the dropdown list, you can add it. Just make sure to provide an official document, such as a letter of incorporation, to ease the verification step. Ensure that your nonprofit’s name is clearly stated.

3. Verification with Goodstack

Google uses Goodstack (formerly Percent or Techsoup) to verify your nonprofit’s status. This Google partner reviews the legal and organizational information submitted when you created your Google for Nonprofits account.

Verification typically takes 2 to 14 business days. Once verified, your organization will be connected to Google for Nonprofits.

4. Apply for the Google Ad Grant

Once you gain access to Google for Nonprofits, you’ll have access to various Google products, including Google Ad Grants. It’s now time to apply for the grant.

  1. Log in to your Google for Nonprofits account.
  2. Click “Activate Products”.
  3. Select Google Ad Grants.
  4. Complete the qualification form and follow the steps carefully.
  5. After acknowledging the guidelines and providing the required information, your application will be complete.
  6. You’ll receive a response by email within 14 business days.

During this waiting period, check your emails regularly as the Google team may reach out for additional information.

5. Accept the account creation

You’ll receive an initial email confirming that your Google Ad Grants application has been approved. Be sure to check your spam folder, as this email can often end up there. By clicking “Confirm,” you’ll create your Google Ad Grants account.

Important : This is the only way to create a Google Ad Grants account. If you try to create the account without this confirmation email, you’ll automatically create a paid Google Ads account, and you’ll be charged for your ads.

6. Accept the payment terms

You’ll receive a second email allowing you to accept the payment terms. Although the grant is free, Google Ads operates like a commercial service, requiring the acceptance of payment terms. This step is a formality: you won’t need to pay anything since your grant covers your advertising fees.

Once you accept the terms, your grant will be activated, and you can start creating and managing campaigns to promote your nonprofit and its projects.

And there you have it! Your mission to secure the Google Ad Grants is clear! With these six steps, you’re now equipped to turn your digital ambitions into reality.
